We offer 7 major services at the centre;


Inner West Family Support Services


This is a free service that helps families who are in stress or crisis. The service is available to families with children under 16 living in the council areas of Ashfiled, Burwood, City of Canada Bay and Strathfield.

This service aims to:

  • Help families develop their parenting and coping skills
  • Assist families to realise their own strengths and meet their own goals
  • Help families deal with their health, legal and finacial problems in appropriate ways
  • Help families build support networks through their local community

This service provides:

  • Information and referral for services in your local area
  • Support to overcome lonliness and isolation
  • Family Counselling
  • Home visits
  • Help with planning your budget
  • Support groups/activities for parents and children

Emergency Financial Relief


The Emergency Financial Relief program aims to assist people in financial crisis to deal with their immediate crisis in a way that maintains their dignity and encourages self-reliance. The service is free and confidential.

Emergency Relief is provided for:

  • Food
  • Medication
  • Overdue Bills - Telstra, Energy Australia, Sydney Water
  • Transport
  • Child expenses

Assistance is provided either as a cash cheque or voucher.

The service may also provide information and referrals to other services if necessary.

Burwood / Ashfield Food Services (Meals on Wheels)


This service provides nutritional meals to frail aged, or people with disability and their carers, with the aim of helping people live at home as independently as possible.

This service offers:

  • Hot, cold or frozen meals delivered daily
  • Meals for the weekend delivered on Friday
  • Italian, Greek and Spanish meals on request
  • Daily contact with Meals on Wheels volunteer
  • Limited shopping service to assist with everyday needs
  • Weekly bus outings
  • Referral to other services if necessary

Inner West Couselling Services


This service provides face to face couselling for issues such as:

  • Anxiety
  • Panic attacks
  • Depression
  • Grief and loss
  • Relationship difficulties
  • Domestic violence
  • Substance abuse
  • Gambling
  • Improving coping skills
  • General personal development issues such as self esteem and motivation

The service also provides refferals for specialist counselling if necessary.

Inner West Women's Domestic Violence
Court Assistance Service



This program aims to empower women experiencing domestic violence to use legal system by providing support, legal representation, information and appropriate refferals to other services.

The service provides:

  • Support during court appearances in a safe, private environment in the Shine Room at Burwood Court
  • Information regarding court procedures and protocol
  • Access legal representation and information
  • Referral to local agencies and support services in relation to income, support, housing, order enforcement, counselling and other needs as required.

Skead House Neighbourhood Centre


The Centre provides a number of services to the Inner West Community.
These services include:

  • Information and referral programs
  • Children's play groups
  • English classes
  • Tax help. This is a free service run from 1st July to 31st October, providing tax information, advice and assistance in lodging tax returs.
  • Food bank. This service gives clients the opportunity to purchase low price food and household products. The community bus takes clients to the warehouse once a month.
  • Volunteering opportunities

Community Hall - "The Barn"


There is also a Community Hall better known as "The Barn", which provides a low cost meeting place for socially and economically disadvantaged and disabled people, self help and ethnic groups within the Inner West. As well as the large meeting space there is also a fully equipped kitchen, ample parking and easy access to public transport.

  • Korean Mother’s Group
